Daylilies come in an incredible range of colors, shapes, and patterns, but creating new varieties takes years of patience, observation, and careful selection. Clemson Extension’s Carmen Ketron visits Don Albers in Murrells Inlet, SC, to learn about his decades of work as a daylily hybridizer and the process of creating and evaluating new daylily varieties. Don shares his passion for hybridizing, what he looks for in a promising seedling, and what keeps him excited about these beautiful and diverse plants.
