Produced in the 1980s by Dr. Sandra Thomas, Under the Yellow Balloon was televised in schools and focused on a single subject in each episode. The program was nationally syndicated to PBS stations.

What Should I Buy?
The episode "What Should I Buy?" focuses on how to properly spend money, and the difference between “want” and “need.” It centers on a young girl, who receives $20 from her father as a birthday gift. At first, the girl is hesitant to spend her money on things she wants, but her mother tells her that she needs to spend her own money for things she wants and not needs. Towards the end, she ends up using her money on gifts for her family.
We’re Spending Too Much Money
The episode "We're Spending Too Much Money" focuses on a family five figuring out how to spend their money wisely. As the father tries to pay their bills, he notices that they do not have enough money and has to take money out from their savings to pay for them. Because of this, the family sits down and talks about what they need to cut down on and decides to create a budget that all of them must follow.
Trains
The episode "Trains" focuses on a young girl named Peggy, and her fascination with trains. While waiting for a train to pass through, Peggy’s parents tell her the difference between freight and passenger trains. They tell her how freight trains can carry all kinds of freight/cargo, such as oil, sand, shipping containers, and vehicles. Afterwards, Peggy tells her father all about their train ride back home, and how much she loved it.
Flying
The episode "Flying" discusses what it is like going through an airport and taking a flight. It centers on a young boy who is flying by himself for the first time. It shows the process of what it is like to go through an airport, being on a flight, and arriving at your destination.
