South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) is proud to participate in American Graduate: Jobs Explained, a national public media initiative to connect young people to in-demand career options through social media content. As part of the Jobs Explained initiative, SCETV has launched the new South Carolina Jobs Explained (@scjobs_explained) Instagram account where local content will become part of a national Jobs Explained ecosystem, amplifying stories and opportunities from around the country.

In response to a rapidly evolving workforce and shifting education pathways, Jobs Explained features young talent delivering engaging, mobile-friendly content on Instagram and YouTube shorts, tailored to viewers ages 15-26.

Now in its second round of station participants, over 5,000 Jobs Explained videos have already been produced nationwide, reaching more than 14 million users and generating over 1 million active engagements— including shares, comments and questions. The initiative represents a digital-first strategy to strengthen workforce development, connect young people with in-demand industries and spark career exploration in a relatable, accessible way.

As one of ten public media stations selected for the Jobs Explained initiative, SCETV will produce more than 150 original short-form videos over the next two years. Each video is designed to feel authentic, engaging and rooted in the interests and experiences of Gen Z. Hosted by SCETV’s Visual Media Designer and Social Video Specialist India Greer, content will spotlight specific South Carolina career pathways in trades, hospitality and manufacturing.

SCETV will also host two community events, facilitate a business advisory group, and collaborate with local employers, schools and workforce organizations to ensure content is relevant and impactful.

The project is made possible by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and managed by The WNET Group in New York. Jobs Explained builds on more than a decade of CPB’s American Graduate initiative, which has supported young Americans in staying on track to graduate high school and transition to college or careers. Jobs Explained places career readiness in a digital-first spotlight, leveraging the reach and trust of public media to make an enduring impact.

SCETV previously produced short-form videos featuring workforce stories and career pathways through the American Graduate initiative. SCETV also used American Graduate funding to host a statewide town hall on education access and partnered with community organizations for the Youth Media Health Institute and Civil Rights Youth Media Summit.

Jobs Explained is one of SCETV’s efforts to elevate workforce development through partnerships, educational productions and digital storytelling. As part of SCETV’s efforts to support the economic growth of the state, the network actively promotes initiatives that highlight career opportunities available across various industries. As a member of the Coordinating Council for Workforce Development, SCETV shares workers' success stories and provides educational resources aligned with workforce development programs to inform South Carolinians on career paths.

Through a partnership with the South Carolina Hospital Association, the Every Role Counts campaign highlights a range of healthcare career opportunities beyond traditional roles. The Your Path, Your Journey public service announcement series promotes non-degreed careers, aiming to develop a skilled workforce that supports South Carolina’s ongoing economic growth. Through career profiles and 360-degree videos, Let's Go! CAREERS offers students a virtual look into various work environments, particularly in sectors that need skilled workers. In addition to Jobs Explained, SCETV will continue to grow these resources available to South Carolinians through new content.
