Roper Mountain Science Center
Opening 40 years ago in 1985, Roper Mountain has become an essential piece of the learning community in the Upstate. Located in Greenville, the Mountain serves over 50,000 students from districts across the state with nearly 70,000 adults and children annually attending their many public programs. For four decades, Roper Mountain has provided transformative learning experiences for students, educators and families alike.
Roper Mountain Science Center champions public television as a natural and essential partner in its educational mission. Both institutions share a foundational commitment to making science, history and culture accessible and engaging for the entire community.
Just as public television brings high-quality programming like NOVA, Nature and Wild Kratts into homes, the Science Center provides the hands-on, experiential counterpart that brings those concepts to life.
“Roper Mountain is dedicated to igniting the natural curiosity of all learners, and what better way to do so than by supporting SCETV,” says Director Michael Weeks, whose favorite show is Wild Kratts. “Much like SCETV, Roper Mountain plays an essential role in equipping students and families across the state. Both organizations share a commitment to learning opportunities, sparking curiosity and encouraging exploration, providing lifelong learning and engagement for so many across South Carolina and beyond.”
