South Carolina has just marked the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene, a storm that left a lasting mark on our state and brought unimaginable devastation to many of our fellow citizens. The destruction it caused reminded us not only of the power of nature but also of the strength and spirit of our people. In the aftermath, South Carolinians came together—neighbors helping neighbors, communities rallying around those in need and countless individuals stepping forward to lend support. The true lesson of Helene was one of community and resilience, a reminder that even in the most challenging of times, the people of South Carolina stand strong together.
Building on that spirit of reflection and resilience, October programming revisits past challenges while looking ahead to what is necessary to keep our state safe and strong. On Oct. 2 at 8 p.m., Weathering the Flood: South Carolina 10 Years Later revisits the thousand-year flood of 2015, exploring how communities were reshaped by the devastation and how resilience continues to define South Carolinians today. Later in the month, new programs take a closer look at our coastal future. On Oct. 23 at 7 p.m., IMPACT South Carolina features a new episode titled “Flood Stage: Rising Seas in Charleston” which examines the growing threat of sea level rise. Following that new episode, Palmetto Perspectives will host a live discussion on ways to balance economic growth and coastal tourism with the realities of flooding, changing weather patterns and sustainability.
Food and culture are also in focus this month. Kitchen Curious with Vivian Howard premieres on the South Carolina Channel Oct. 3 at 9 p.m., while Fork & Hammer debuts on ETV Oct. 16 at 8:30 p.m. For music and the arts, tune in throughout October for programs ranging from Recorded Live at Analog to Great Performances at the Met.
Other highlights include a new season of What’s Wild debuting on SCETV.org on Oct. 7, the premiere of Shortwave Kitsch Radio on SC Public Radio on Oct. 4, and a new SCETV Safe Space episode, “Triggered: Understanding the Roots of Anger,” airing on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m.
Thank you for turning to SCETV for trusted programming that informs, inspires and connects communities across South Carolina. Your support helps us continue to share these programs across the Palmetto state and beyond.
