Independence Day is a time for celebration and reflection, a moment to honor our nation's journey and the freedoms we are privileged to enjoy. It is also a time for deep gratitude and pride.

We give thanks to the brave individuals who fought—and many who gave their lives—so that we might live in a country of liberty. We know South Carolina holds a special place in that history. Our state was the backdrop to pivotal Revolutionary War battles, home to critical victories that shaped the course of the war. Within those chapters there are countless untold stories and many unsung heroes whose legacies continue to inspire.

As we celebrate this Independence Day, let us remember and honor those who came before us, and recommit ourselves to the ideals they fought to uphold.

On July 4, we honor Independence Day with two annual traditions. At 7 p.m., tune in for Carolina Celebration of Liberty. Hosted by First Baptist Church in Columbia, this tribute recognizes those who serve, have served and those who gave their lives in defense of liberty. Immediately following, at 8 p.m., A Capitol Fourth brings America’s birthday celebration to the national stage, featuring world-class musical performances and the country’s most spectacular fireworks display. The celebration continues on July 5 at 11 a.m. with an episode of Who What When on SC Public Radio, featuring Founding Father trivia, historical quotes vs. Hamilton lyrics, and stories from the life of Benjamin Franklin.

This month, SCETV also launches exciting new opportunities for exploration and connection. On July 17, Expedition VR debuts on our digital platforms. This immersive virtual reality series transports viewers to South Carolina’s most awe-inspiring landscapes, offering a fresh and dynamic way to experience the state’s natural beauty and rich history.

Literature lovers can enjoy new episodes of Books By The River, airing throughout July on ETV, South Carolina Channel and ETV World. This series continues to spotlight the authors and stories that capture the imagination and heritage of the Palmetto State.

As always, SCETV remains committed to delivering content that enlightens minds, engages communities and inspires meaningful conversations. We thank our supporters who make it possible to continue exploring new ways to tell South Carolina’s story.
