Welcome JD Dillensnyder to the ETV Education team!

JD is excited to join SCETV as our Education Technologist in the Education Division. With a 20-year career in instructional design, education technology, and media production, JD previously served in the United States Air Force developing distance learning and multimedia training programs. JD is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Teaching and Learning at the University of South Carolina, where his research explores narrative storytelling as a way to amplify South Carolina educators' voices.

In his role as Education Technologist, JD leads the creative development of educational resources and training experiences that promote educational technology while supporting teaching, learning, and community engagement. He produces high-quality visuals, graphics, promotional materials, 3D printed artifacts, and instructional interactives. He also facilitates in-person and virtual learning experiences and creates online trainings that showcase innovative and accessible uses of technology for students and educators.

‘Fun facts’ about JD:

  • Favorite book: It's a tie! The Outsiders by Susan Eloise Hinton was one of the first books that helped me understand a narrative sense of identity and belonging. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is another favorite for how it connects with readers through recognizable themes of growing up and finding one’s voice.
  • Favorite teacher/educator:
My high school English teacher, who gave me one of my first narrative writing assignments. She encouraged me to write bravely, which helped me discover the creative side of writing.
  • Favorite subject in school:
English is my favorite subject because stories help us recognize our shared experiences across cultures and remind us of the connections that bring people together.
  • Favorite hobby/pastime:
Photography is my favorite hobby, because I get to creatively tell a story through light, color, and composition.
  • Favorite quote:
"You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have." -Maya Angelou
