Learn alongside students as they ask astronaut Charles F. Bolden Jr. questions about every step of his journey in space from takeoff to touchdown. In his conversation with the students, he likens each of his experiences and feelings to events the students might go through on a typical school day.
Bolden Jr. presents his insights into the rocket boosters of Challenger and the events that led to its demise 73 seconds after its takeoff. This includes descriptions of the internal portions of the boosters and their attachment to the shuttle. Following this, he asks the audience to recall their knowledge of physics as he moves to speak on shuttle re-entry. He recounts how he felt physically during the descent from space as well as how his body naturally acclimated itself in the coming days.
Experience life on the shuttle itself with Charles Bolden Jr. as he provides accounts from his day-to-day life in space. He recalls essential steps surrounding exercise that were necessary to maintain the body’s biomechanics and health. Additionally, he presents the sights of the light of and darkness of space as he rotates the earth and the sun rises and sets.
