2025 State Telehealth Champion Henry McMaster, South Carolina Governor

The 2025 State Telehealth Champion award was presented to South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster during the 13th Annual Telehealth Summit of South Carolina held last  month in Charleston.

This award recognizes an individual champion in the areas of clinical care, education, policy or IT support. The purpose of the state champion award is to recognize individuals who have overcome significant barriers or developed revolutionary processes that benefit the communities they serve in South Carolina.

Governor McMaster is a strong advocate of telehealth and has worked collaboratively with state legislators to expand virtual access in South Carolina. He embraced telehealth technology as a way to close the gap in healthcare access statewide. He encouraged public private partnerships to further develop telehealth throughout the state.

“South Carolina and the Medical University of South Carolina specifically are national leaders in telehealth,” said MUSC President David Cole. “The genesis of that has been through leadership at the state level starting with Governor McMaster to support the implementation and development of telehealth over the last 10 to 12 years. We are very grateful because that took a lot of vision and a lot of leadership to get that enabled.”

Palmetto Care Connections is the host of the Annual Telehealth Summit of South Carolina. The Telehealth Summit brings together leaders and professionals interested in utilizing telehealth to increase access to health care.
