Nicole to bring flooding rain and tornado threat to South Carolina today

Nicole is a Tropical Depression this morning & forecast to move across the Upstate as a depression or strong low pressure system today. Nicole made landfall in Florida early yesterday morning and spent most of the day as tropical storm causing flooding rains, strong winds, and significant coastal impacts.

As the system passes by the far northwest parts of the state through this afternoon, expect local flooding due to several inches of rain. Most areas will receive 1-3" on average with the heaviest accumulations expected in the Upstate closer to the storm. A nice soaking will hopefully ease the drought situation in some locations.

A Tornado Watch is posted in northeast parts of the state until 3 pm. Although the system has weakened, strong dynamics of the storm will sustain an isolated tornado threat through this afternoon. Please stay safe & have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Drier, cooler and quieter weather is expected over the weekend. A strong cold front Saturday will bring unseasonably chilly temps starting Sunday, and possibly a widespread frost or freeze overnight into Monday morning.
