Data shows healthiest, least healthy counties in South Carolina

Public health officials worry that the mostly low-income and immigrant populations served by community health centers aren't getting proper health care and testing.

New County health rankings data from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute puts Beaufort County as the healthiest county in South Carolina and Dillon County, the least healthy.

For more than a decade, the Rankings’ data along with evidence, guidance and stories have been used to show that there are multiple factors that shape health.

Maya Pack is Executive Director of the South Carolina Institute of Medicine and Public Health, the nonprofit works to inform policy to improve health in the state. Pack offers insight into how community-based factors often play a larger role in health outcomes than clinical care or the health care system.
