SC Lede: Boosting Booster Updates Update

The FDA Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officially approved and recommended the first updated COVID-19 booster vaccinations to better protect against the Omicron variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. The Omicron variant of the virus has been the dominant strain in the United States since late 2021. The federal recommendation for the updated COVID-19 boosters, which is supported by public health officials at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), is for: the Pfizer-BioNTech updated booster for people ages 12 years and older the Moderna updated booster vaccine for people ages 18 years and older
