A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for most of the Midlands and far western portions of Pee Dee and the Lowcountry until 9:00PM EDT Tuesday.
A line of thunderstorms ahead of a strong cold front was moving through central parts of the Midlands, including the cities of Columbia, Camden and Aiken early Tuesday evening producing multiple severe thunderstorm warnings. This line of storms is expected to maintain its intensity over the next several hours as it progresses eastward into eastern parts of the Midlands and then spread into the Pee Dee, Lowcountry, and coastal areas after sunset. Pockets of damaging wind, lightning, and heavy rain are expected to be the primary hazards with these storms.
Additionally, a line of storms was organizing in Mississippi and Alabama early Tuesday evening and tracking eastward. The line is forecast to move through Georgia Tuesday evening and into the Central Savannah River area of South Carolina overnight Tuesday. The storms could weaken during the overnight but they still could be strong enough to produce strong winds and an isolated tornado from the Central Savannah River into the Lowcountry during the early morning hours Wednesday morning.
Residents and advised to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts this evening and tonight as these strong storms move towards the coast.
