COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina ETV (SCETV) today announced that it will be launching a new, community engagement-focused series with a one-hour discussion on racial injustice Wednesday, July 8 at 7 p.m. Airing on both SCETV and SC Public Radio, this new series, titled “Palmetto Perspectives,” aims to bring together a diverse group of voices to discuss the important issues facing the state of South Carolina and its communities.
In light of the protests that followed the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and other unarmed black Americans, this premiere episode will feature a panel of leaders from South Carolina’s African American community who will discuss these killings, the subsequent protests and how to overcome these tragedies.
Confirmed to participate in the panel discussion are student demonstration leader and first-generation college student Lyric Swinton; 2020 South Carolina Teacher of the Year Chanda Jefferson; rap artist and musician Benjamin Starr; South Carolina State Representative Marvin Pendarvis and Benedict College President Dr. Roslyn Clark Artis.
The program will be hosted by SC Public Radio Reporter Thelisha Eaddy, and SCETV Assistant General Manager Adrienne Fairwell will be taking questions and comments from viewers via a Facebook Live stream on the @SouthCarolinaETV page throughout the broadcast.
A new episode of “Palmetto Perspectives” is expected to air each quarter. For more information on SCETV, visit www.scetv.org.
“As South Carolina’s only statewide educational television and multi-platform media network, we have a responsibility to promote kindness and empathy, especially in challenging times, such as these. By introducing our younger generations to new opinions and different perspectives, we hope to be a part of the positive change that’s necessary for every South Carolinian to feel accepted and, most importantly, at home.” –SCETV President and CEO Anthony Padgett
“I’m incredibly proud of Team SCETV for pulling this timely program together. Our hope is that the people of this state will tune in and use this series – and, specifically, this week’s premiere episode -- to listen, learn and gain a better understanding of the perspectives and concerns of their fellow South Carolinians.” –SCETV Assistant General Manager Adrienne Fairwell, APR, CPM
