It took millions of steps to make one giant leap.
South Carolina ETV and the ETV Endowment of South Carolina invite you to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing with us! Through a series of state-wide events and locally-produced television, radio and digital programs, we will retrace many of the steps, both within South Carolina and without, of the space race that led from its earliest beginnings to the monumental achievement of the first lunar landing in 1969.
Lunar festivities kick off in Hartsville with a sneak peek at Chasing the Moon, a look at what GSSM students are achieving in the world of physics and a brief presentation by Dr. Jeannette Myers, astrophysicist and director of the Francis Marion University planetarium. This event is free and open to the public; reservations are not required. Doors open at 6:00 PM; light refreshments will be served. The program begins at 6:30 PM.
ABOUT CHASING THE MOON
Chasing the Moon thoroughly re-imagines the race to the moon for a new generation, upending much of the conventional mythology surrounding the effort. The three-part series recasts the Space Age as a fascinating stew of scientific innovation and PR savvy, political calculation and media spectacle, visionary impulses and personal drama. Chasing the Moon airs on SCETV July 8, 9, 10 at 9:00 PM. #ChasingtheMoonPBS.
