Read to Succeed (R2S) Courses

ETV LEARN offers the following two R2S courses:

1. Instructional Practices  
   RDLA267: Teaching Phonics and Spelling for Beginning and Transitional Readers, Second Edition (syllabus)
    
2. Content Area Reading & Writing
   RDLA272: Vocabulary as a Foundation for Learning (syllabus) 

*Although the courses are primarily intended for K-3 educators, the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) has stated the courses will be accepted for R2S credit for all educators regardless of their certification area and the course target grade level/role. 

• These are not self-paced courses; they are facilitator-led over a structured, yet flexible, 6-week period. Each course is offered several times a year.
• Coursework activities include watching videos, reading articles, and completing various learning activities.
• Each course is 45 instruction hours, costs $265 and, in addition to the R2S credit, earns 60 Renewal Credits approved by the SCDE. Non SC-certified educators may request a generic certificate citing instruction hours completed. NO Graduate Credit is available for these courses.

It is YOUR responsibility as a learner to verify that any course of interest will meet your individual professional development and credit needs. If you have any concerns, check with your school district PD/Renewal Coordinator, the SCDE Office of Educator Services, or other entity as appropriate.

PD at Home Series (free)

ETV LEARN offers recorded versions of our FREE live professional development webinar sessions, Afterschool with ETV.

• Topics include ed tech tools, SCETV and PBS educational resources, and many special topics.
• Educators can view the recordings and receive a certificate of participation for 1 hour of PD.  
• To earn the certificate for a recording:
  • You MUST watch the recording through our ETV LEARN platform. Registration is free; just create an account to access the learning management system. Once you're logged in, select "PD at Home" to view the recording options. 
  • You will need to watch the recording in its entirety and complete the webinar evaluation.
  • You may watch as many different recordings as desired and earn a certificate for each.

FAQs

How do I enroll in a Self-Paced or R2S Course?

• Visit our Recertification Courses page and select the course you want with the appropriate start and end dates.
  • If enrollment for the course is open, you’ll see an ‘Enroll Now’ button when viewing the course details; if not, note the 'Enroll Start' date and come back then to enroll.
• Click the ‘Enroll Now’ button to be taken to our course ‘store’. From there, click the course title again to start the enrollment process.
  • If you already have an ETV LEARN account, you’ll be prompted to enter your Username and Password to login; if you don’t have one, you’ll click the ‘Register’ link and complete the fields to create an account. (Take note of the Username and Password you create; you’ll need these each time to login to your course. Also, your email address must be unique; if there is an existing account with that email already, an account will not be created.)
• After you’re logged in, you’ll be taken to an invoice page where you’ll enter additional information and then choose to pay via debit or credit card (preferred) or check.  We do not accept American Express.
• To pay by check, select the ‘Pay by Check’ option when prompted to pay. Then, promptly mail or deliver your check or money order payment to:

    Be sure to write your name and the course title on the check or an additional slip of paper; please also include your email and/or phone number in case we have a concern.
    *Note that course enrollments made via check payment are not confirmed until the check clears.

When will I get my course certificate?

• Upon successful course completion, your Renewal Credit Certificate of Completion will unlock for access. Please review and download your certificate within 2 weeks of completing your course to ensure the information is accurate. 
• It is the LEARNER's RESPONSIBILITY to provide the completion certificate to the appropriate entity; SCETV DOES NOT submit certificates. Further guidance is provided at the completion of your course. Be sure to save a copy for your records!
• SCETV provides a list of successful learners for each course to the SCDE, however this record is not accepted for credit in lieu of your Renewal Credit Certificate; instead, it is used to verify the authenticity of submitted certificates.
