President's Corner Monthly Newsletter, August 2017
Dear Viewers and Listeners:
South Carolina is in the direct path of the continental total solar eclipse, the first in almost 100 years. Anchored in Columbia, with reports from Charleston and Clemson, we will simulcast (on TV, radio and the web) a live special during the actual eclipse, Aug. 21, 2:30- 3:30 p.m., hosted by Beryl Dakers. Leading up to Aug. 21, SCETV will stream interviews with astronauts, scientists, naturalists and other experts on our web site: scetv.org/2017-total-solar-eclipse. We are also offering footage to NOVA producers for use in their special that night at 9 p.m.
Also in August we host our Summer Pledge, with a variety of specials—both new and old favorites. Sgt. Pepper’s Musical Revolution celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ groundbreaking album, with a look at the creation and ongoing influence of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. JFK: The Lost Inaugural Concert features performances from Frank Sinatra, Ethel Merman, Harry Belafonte, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, and more in this previously unseen presidential gala from 1961. Mindfulness Goes Mainstream explores the power of meditation sweeping the country today. Returning are ever-popular favorites ’70s Soul Superstars, Rock, Rhythm and Doo Wop, Paul Simon: Concert at Hyde Park, and more.
Congratulations to our recent Emmy winners: Remembering Charleston, Live from the Charleston Music Hall (an ETV Presents produced by Chucktown Music Group), and host Patrick McMillan (of Expeditions, a co-production with Clemson University). We are proud of these well-deserved accolades; and pledge to continue to bring you award-winning productions all year long.
