ETV’s Online Military Collection Now Available!
South Carolina ETV Digital Media has spent the last month curating military content from its archives, and we’re excited to release the ETV Military Collection, just in time for Memorial Day. The collection offers a historical look and spotlights service men and women who have made great sacrifices for their country and fellow Americans.
In this first round, we concentrated on adding on-demand content from ETV and South Carolina Public Radio for World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. For educators, we have pulled content that can be used in the classroom. We look forward to adding more content, as well as new, original local stories about Vietnam veterans during the summer. On September 17, 2017, the much-anticipated The Vietnam War: A Film by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick will air on ETV.
Take a sneak peek at Victory Starts Here: Fort Jackson Centennial, which premieres on June 15, 2017 at 8:00 p.m. on ETV. Using archival material and new interviews with Fort Jackson personnel and community leaders, this special will focus on the history of the fort and on its current and future impact on the city of Columbia and the state of South Carolina. The program will include historic milestones from its beginning as Camp Jackson, an Army training base during World War I, and continuing through World War II until today, and will describe how Fort Jackson has become an important part of the social and economic life of this region and the state.
