Susan O’Cain
Susan O’Cain is a dynamic and results-driven communications and operations leader with nearly 30 years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, tourism development, and organizational leadership. She currently serves as Digital Content Editor & Reporter for South Carolina Public Radio.
She served as Director of Operations for the Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board, where she oversaw daily operations, drove economic vitality across a four-county region, and managed initiatives that strengthened the region’s reputation as a premier tourism destination.
Previously, Susan served as Director of Communications for Richland County Government, where she led countywide communication strategies, crisis management efforts, and public information campaigns, as well as Director of Public Relations for Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, elevating one of the Southeast’s top attractions through innovative marketing, media relations, and conservation advocacy.
Earlier in her career, Susan built a strong foundation in journalism as a producer and assignment manager at WLTX-TV, where she honed her ability to deliver clear, compelling stories under tight deadlines.
A skilled strategist and spokesperson, Susan is known for her ability to unify messaging, lead high-performing teams, and build strong community and stakeholder relationships. She is a Professional Fellow Member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and serves on multiple industry boards and committees.
