Towns in Tune

Mike Hickey is an award-winning filmmaker, best-selling author, and accidental TV ghost hunter whose passion for all things spooky has led him from exploring old cemeteries in his hometown of Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland to exploring old cemeteries in Salem, Dublin, Transylvania, and Los Angeles.

Through the web series FRIGHT HYPE, Mike reported horror news for CryptTV, a digital network backed by Blumhouse, which opened doors to event coverage and collaborations with major studios such as Universal, Warner Brothers, Paramount, AMC, and others.

Building on this success and a desire to promote horror in his home province, Mike launched the Terror Nova anthology of Newfoundland inspired horror stories for Engen Books. This project evolved into Terror Nova Entertainment, his production company dedicated to showcasing Newfoundland & Labrador as a hub for Creepy Culture through live events and television programs like DOWNTOWN’S OLD HAUNTS and TERROR NOVA.

As a filmmaker, he wrote and directed the short film THAT HALLOWEEN (2021) which premiered Halloween night 2021 on SuperChannel through the Blood in the Snow Film Festival and collected laurels and awards on the festival circuit before being licensed for ALL HALLOWS EVE 3. He’s also produced several shorts including the Telefilm Picture Start films MATCHSTICK (2017) FALSE LIGHT (2018), which was selected for Cannes Not Short on Talent, FISHBOWL (2022) and IF NOT TO DIE (2023). He has also independently produced the shorts DON’T LET THEM IN (2024) and AN INTERVIEW WITH THE DEVIL (2025).

Mike currently serves as the president of the Newfoundland Independent Filmmakers’ Co-Operative (NIFCO) and sits on the board for FogFest. He resides in St John’s, Newfoundland Labrador, with his wife, Maria.
