Dr. Tamara Butler

Dr. Tamara T. Butler is a community cultivator from Johns Island, South Carolina. She serves as the Executive Director of the Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture and Associate Dean of Strategic Planning & Community Engagement for the College of Charleston Libraries. For more than a decade, Dr. Butler has focused on efforts at the intersections of ecological and educational equity, centering community building, Black histories and cultural productions. Beyond campus, Dr. Butler is a trustee for the National Council of Teachers of English's Research Foundation, as well as a board member for the Coastal Conservation League and International African American Museum.
