Alison Hughey

Solbird Sessions, Music Therapist

Learn more about Solbird Sessions.

Alison Hughey is a board-certified music therapist, author and engaging speaker who uses music to foster connection, healing, and community. As the founder of Carolina Music Therapy and partner of Premier Arts Collective and Lawson Academy of the Arts at Converse University, she blends evidence-based practice with creativity to support individualized psychosocial, communication and physical goals. She is passionate about the use of creativity in mental health self-care and published the Creative and Curious card deck to help support development of these healthy habits for individuals and for those working in the field of mental health.

As a speaker and group facilitator partnering with Solbird Sessions and Classical Healing Keys,  Alison translates neuroscience and trauma-informed care into clear, relatable ideas, often through interactive rhythm, lyrics, and shared musical moments. Her talks feel more like a well-curated playlist than a lecture—inviting, practical, and memorable. Whether speaking to professionals, community groups, or retreat participants, she reminds audiences that sometimes the most powerful way forward is to slow down, listen, and find our shared rhythms.

Alison lives in Spartanburg, SC with her husband Lane and their two rescue dogs, Mila and Tater. She serves as President of the Music Therapy Association of South Carolina, Vice President of Classical Healing Keys, and Director of Music at United Methodist Church of the Covenant.
