Gateway to SC We highlight the The I-95 Gateway to South Carolina created by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. As travelers enter South Carolina on I-95 from Georgia, they pass by this beautiful gateway that showcases the state tree (Palmetto) and the state flower (Yellow Jessamine.)

Highway Wildflowers The taped feature will highlight the tremendous job The South Carolina Department of Transportation does in beautifying the S.C. highways. Team "Making It Grow!" stops in St. George, S.C. to learn about the wildflowers grown that make interstate driving more enjoyable.
10/22/02 Folk Artist We visited fiber and folk artist Maree Dowdey in Columbia, S.C. Growing up in rural Richland Co., S.C. Mrs. Dowdey was taught the art of making baskets, corn-shuck dolls, quilts, and soap. Today, Mrs. Dowdey teaches and demonstrates these skills in hopes of passing on the knowledge and the art to another generation.

Artist and Master Gardener Bobbi Adams invites Making It Grow! to her backyard garden where vegetables, flowers, and herbs are grown for wildlife. Rowland Alston asks Bobbi to highlight some of her favorite plants and to give tips for maintaining them.

This 'Making It Grow!' features The Richmond Hill Inn in Asheville, N.C., and a Friendship Garden in Sumter, S.C. The Richmond Hill Inn's six-acre Victorian landscape features manicured gardens and natural areas, monuments, and several water features. The Inn's horticulturist Hunter Stubbs gives Clemson Extension Agent F. Brian Smith a tour of the summer garden.
7/16/02 Elizabeth Lawrence's Garden In 1948 Elizabeth Lawrence, a landscape architect an author, moved to Charlotte and created a magnificent Southern garden. After her death in 1986, Master Gardener Lindie Wilson purchased the home and has maintained Lawrence's plants along with the symmetrical grid of the garden and the pathways that enclose a circular pond.
7/16/02 Super-Sod Trees The Super-Sod Trees nursery grows a wide variety of 15 gallon, 30 gallon and 45 gallon specimen trees and shrubs. Also the Super-Sod containers are coated with "Spin Out" which greatly reduce root circling and promote a more fibrous root system.
6/18/02 Egyptian & Arabian Horses In Bethune, S.C. Whitehaven Plantation is a 500 acre premiere equine facility home to beautiful Egyptian and Arabian horses. An indoor arena, a large Hunter-Jumper course, and miles of trails help train these horses and their riders.
6/18/02 The Duke Mansion The Duke Mansion, in Charlotte, NC, is an estate built by James Buchanan Duke, whose lasting legacy includes Duke University and Duke Power Company. Historic trees, perennial gardens, and herb gardens can all be found on the grounds of this 85 year old mansion, which is now a bed and breakfast and a state of the art meeting facility.

5/14/02 Iris Gardens Not far from the WRJA studios in Sumter, S.C., Swan Lake Iris Gardens has all eight species of swan and 25 varieties of irises. This 150 acre garden is also home to the Iris Festival, ranked as one of the top 100 festivals in America.

4/2/02 Carolina Forest Elementary/Carolina Forest High School Team 'Making It Grow!' features an elementary school's atrium in Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Lightning Rods in Clemson, S.C. Carolina Forest Elementary and Carolina Forest High School in Myrtle Beach, S.C., teach horticulture through hands-on experience. Carolina Forest High School students grow plants in a greenhouse and help the elementary students plant them in their courtyard.
