Nucor Corporation, the largest steel producer in the country, announced a $100,000 donation to help families impacted by Hurricane Matthew through the One SC Relief Fund. The fund was established after the 2015 flood to help families recovering from natural disasters. After Hurricane Matthew hit S.C., Governor Haley, who started One SC, along with the Central Carolina Community Foundation, expanded fundraising efforts to help those dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane.
Many South Carolinians may not have heard of the town of Nichols prior to Gov. Nikki Haley's October 10th press conference. The small town is in Marion County and has a population of about 400. Those watching that update, learned that more than half of the town's residents were rescued from the third floor of the town hall. Florence, S.C. saw a massive number of power outages from Hurricane Matthew. We spoke to Charles Ellison, Duke Energy Company Spokesperson, about the damage that was done by the hurricane and how energy companies were working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.
