Winthrop / ETV Poll - May 2009

Do you think President Barack Obama accomplished much in his first 100 days? How do you feel about the current state of race relations in the South? What are the most important problems facing our country? The next Winthrop/ETV Poll looks at these issues and many more, and the first place you can find out the results is on the Thursday, May 21 episode of The Big Picture.

This poll was conducted among registered voters in 11 southern states, including Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, and of course, South Carolina.

The just-concluded poll was taken during President Barack Obama's first weeks in office exclusively with African Americans living in 11 southern states: Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas, South Carolina, Texas, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana.

Find out:
*Southern African Americans' expectations of Pres. Barack Obama, and whether his administration will favor whites over blacks or blacks over whites – not to mention rich vs. poor
*Their thoughts about the state of race relations in the South and across America
*If they feel the U.S. is on the right track or headed in the wrong direction
*How effective they feel the Republican Party has been at attracting African American voters
*And how many southern African Americans ARE comfortable having conversations about race with people of another race (particularly timely, in light of Attorney General Eric Holder's recent comments)
