Wind Turbine Testing


Clemson's Restoration Institute in Charleston was recently awarded a 45 million dollar grant from the U.S. Dept of Energy to build and run a large wind turbine drive train test facility on the former Naval Base. This is one of the largest grants ever for South Carolina. Is this the tipping point for green energy from wind and what does it mean for South Carolina?

Wind (air) has little mass and therefore little power.. The Gulf Stream has a lot of power to drive flat blades that do not harm fish.
If we can put oil rigs on ocean floors, why not generators that are immune to hurricanes and wind speeds. - Thomas T Panto
