The Heritage Golf Tournament
AIR DATE: April 22, 2010
Since 1969, golf spectators from across the world have descended onto Hilton Head Island for the annual Verizon Heritage Golf Tournament. Due to economic strains, this will be the last year that Verizon will sponsor the tournament, leaving a question mark on the viability to keep this tournament alive, a tournament that brings over $84 million in sales to South Carolina every year. And in a move that has many people talking in these tough economic times, the SC House of Representative passed an amendment in this year's appropriations bill to give the tournament a $10 million dollar loan if needed. We travel to the tournament and talk to South Carolinians and visitors on the importance of this tournament to our state and what the future holds.
