Military Families/American Soldier
This week, The Big Picture takes a unique look at the role of the military here in South Carolina. There are 93 living recipients of the Medal of Honor, and four of them have South Carolina connections. We’ll talk to each man. We’ll also remember the life of Captain Kimberly Hampton of Easley, the 1st female pilot shot down in Iraq, and SC’s first female casualty of that war. Hampton was a summa cum laude honors graduate of Presbyterian College and the South Atlantic Conference female athlete of the Year in 1999. The Big Picture will also talk to recently retired military generals who say Guardsmen in our state should be prepared to be called up to more action as the way in Afghanistan intensifies. We'll have all this along with a tour of a current photography exhibit on display at the Florence Civic Center called, "American Soldier".
