Coal Power
At a time when our country is desperate to find new energy, South Carolina’s state-owned utility, Santee Cooper, is proposing a new coal plant in the Pee Dee region. Over half of our country’s power comes from coal, and it is cheap and plentiful, but experts say that it causes the most air pollution, along with mercury poison. The Big Picture looks at both sides of the debate and the future of energy in our state.
