Two Champions: South Carolina Winners in Poetry Out Loud and Letters About Literature
Monday - June 16, 2014
A technical glitch which occurred during production of the podcast published for June 2, 2014, prevented us from bringing you the first-place winning recitation in the Poetry Out Loud Competition by Nicole Sadek. Nicole is a student at Charleston County School of the Arts and you'll enjoy meeting her and hearing the recitation of James Dickey's The Hospital Window. Also on the podcast, you'll get to know Joshua Brandt, who takes his high school courses through the South Carolina Virtual Charter School. He won the grade 9 - 12 grade competition in Letters About Literature, a program run nationwide by the US Library of Congress and offered to students in this state by the South Carolina State Library. His letter to J. R. Tolkien about the book The Lord of the Rings explains how and why the world of fantasy has engulfed this young reader. You'll enjoy this edition of Speaking of Schools!
