Teacher Cadets and Teaching Fellows

The Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement (CERRA) housed at Winthrop University offers a number of programs designed to support and enhance the education profession in the state. The highly successful Teacher Cadet program, in its over twenty years of existence, has been emulated throughout the country and helps supply our state with quality teachers. Since 1999 the Teaching Fellows program has provided scholarship opportunities to Palmetto State students – up to $6,000.00 per year for four years to those who qualify and are willing to spend a year in the state’s public schools for each year they received financial assistance. Program Directors Tria Grant (Cadets) and Brett Vaughn (Fellows) discuss their programs, and CERRA Public Information Coordinator Mychal Frost reflects on the agency’s Teacher Expo held in Columbia in early June.

I was a former Teacher Cadet teacher, Teacher-in-Residence with CERRA and now the college liaison at the College of Charleston for area Teacher Cadet partnerships.  CERRA has been tremendously successful in attracting the best and brightest into SC’s teaching profession.  I congratulate them for their hard work!
