South Carolina’s “Poetry Out Loud” Winner and Runner-up
Monday - June 14, 2010
For the past several years the Literary Arts Partnership, a joint effort of the Humanities Council SC, the SC Arts Commission, and the SC State Library has sponsored the state's Poetry Out Loud competition. Teachers of English, Literature, Creative Writing and other related subjects have observed this national competition as an excellent vehicle to stimulate students' interest in and love of poetry. The Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest was created by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation and nearly 325,000 students nationwide participated in this year's contest. The program in South Carolina has grown by leaps and bounds over the past several years and this week's program features conversations with our state champion and runner up, as well as the teachers of these two exemplary students.
