Letters About Literature and Poetry Out Loud
Monday - November 12, 2012
Both of the programs featured on this week's podcast involve student participation and are designed to increase interest in the reading of poetry and prose. Letters About Literature has three levels of competition and invites students through the tenth grade to participate. It's sponsored by the South Carolina State Library and the Library of Congress. Participants write letters to authors, living or dead, telling how that author's work changed their lives or values. Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest. Students compete at the school, regional and state levels with the winner representing the state in the national competition in the spring. More information about the Letters About Literature contest can be found at the website of the South Carolina State Library, statelibrary.sc.gov and for Poetry Out Loud at southcarolinaarts.com.
