International Baccalaureate Programs
Monday - March 12, 2012
This week's podcast features information about International Baccalaureate (IB) programs around the state and the world. IB offers high-quality programs for a worldwide community of schools and is governed by the International Baccalaureate Organization. There are three programs for students aged 3-19; The Primary Years Program (PYP) ages 3-12 (889 IB Schools), which began in 1997; Middle Years Program, (MYP) ages 11-16 (935 IB Schools), which began in 1994; and the Diploma Programme (DP) ages 16-19 (2313 IB Schools), which began in 1968. In South Carolina, there are about 52 IB Schools: 14 PYP, 20 MYP, and 27 DP. The IB program benefits students of all ages by helping them to become more aware of their own culture and other cultures and emphasizes a more globally based curriculum, helping students to become better citizens. Guests from the South Carolina Department of Education join us for our discussion on IB schools on this edition of Speaking of Schools.
