Charter School Info and After School Environments and Health Behaviors
Monday - July 30, 2012
We missed out on the opportunity to tell you about two information sessions presented by The Public Charter School Alliance last week, but parents looking for public school options for their children can attend information sessions this week in North Charleston, Columbia and Greenville. Find out dates and locations on this week's podcast. Charter schools are public schools that are allowed the freedom to be more innovative while being held accountable for improving student achievement. This coming school year, there will be nearly 20,000 public school students across the state in 55 public charter schools. Along with this discussion, we'll feature information from the U.S.C. Arnold School of Public Health. A study entitled "Rural Children's Afterschool Environment and Health Behaviors" has been published in the American Journal of Health Studies, and the lead investigator from U.S.C.'s Department of Health Promotion, Education and Behavior comments on the findings of the study. An informative podcast on Speaking of Schools!
