Celebrating with CERRA and South Carolina’s Teacher Cadet Program
Monday - February 22, 2010
For over twenty years the Teacher Cadet program operated out of the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention and Advancement (CERRA) at Winthrop University in Rock Hill has been committed to providing the state's brightest and best students with an opportunity to pursue teaching as a career and to influence education in the Palmetto State for years to come. Numerous other states have emulated the CERRA program and recently, Phi Delta Kappa International has recognized the Teacher Cadet curriculum by adopting it for the organization's Future Educator Association. On this week's podcast the Teacher Cadet Program Director Marcella Wine-Snyder and Mychael Frost, CERRA's Public Information Coordinator, are joined by another former cadet, Polly Atkinson, who teaches fourth grade at Cheraw Primary School. The guests discuss the program's origins and how it has evolved over the years to where today it touches over 2,000 academically-able high school juniors and seniors in approximately 175 schools.
