Bullying and other forms of mistreatment in schools, Economic Education workshop and Walking Works
Monday - January 25, 2010
Community Matters, a California-based organization has done extensive work in assessing the problem of violence, bullying and other forms of mistreatment in schools. Their School Violence-Prevention Report Card came out in April of 2009; the research outcomes and recommendations are a part of this week's podcast. In addition, The South Carolina Council on Economic Education is sponsoring an upcoming workshop entitled "Is Capitalism Good for the Poor?" Information on that workshop and other activities of the Council will be previewed and representatives from Blue Choice Health Plan of South Carolina will introduce us to a program called Walking Works, which targets elementary-aged students and is designed to curb the high incidence of obesity and diabetes in our population.
