Bridges Summer Program
Monday - July 26, 2010
Recently, Furman's Bridges to a Brighter Future completed its 2010 summer session on the campus. Seventy five students, twenty six of them new entrants into the program designed for Greenville County Students whose potential outdistance their circumstances. Speaking of Schools caught up with the Program Director, Head Counselor and three absolutely delightful students who reflect on their experiences in the Bridges program. The obviously bright and articulate students confirm what the Johns Hopkins Center for Summer Learning recognized when the Bridges program was awarded their Summer Excellence Award for 2009. Over the thirteen years it has existed this program has a 100 percent success rate of participants either graduating from high school or earning a high school equivalency diploma and ninety three percent have enrolled in college. Students selected have annual family incomes of less than $35,000.
