Poetry Out Loud: South Carolina’s Runner Up and Winner
Monday - July 15, 2013
This week on the podcast we'll celebrate with two outstanding high school students, the runner up and winner in the state's portion of the national Poetry Out Loud competition. The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with U.S. state arts agencies to support Poetry Out Loud, a contest that encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage. We'll visit with Justin Fox of Spartanburg High and Kat Murchinson from the Charleston County School of the Arts, talk with their teachers and hear their award-winning recitations. Join us for this edition of Speaking of Schools!
