The first Annual S.C. Youth At Risk Summit is coming April 29th, and on this week's podcast, you can learn more about the "South Carolina Youth ChalleNGe Academy" (the uppercase "NG" reflecting the National Guard's oversight) residential high school dropout program serving students throughout the state. It's a program wherein at-risk teenagers ages 16-19 enter a five-month "quasimilitary" academy, located at McCrady Training Facility on Ft. Jackson, and upon successful completion of the program return home with the values, skills, education, self-esteem and self-discipline to succeed as an adult. Time spent at the Youth ChalleNGe Academy is followed by a one-year mentoring phase to support the new graduates and help prevent a slide back into the self-destructive environment that led them to the academy in the first place. There are no requirements for military service.

Hear about the national program and how one upstate school district has taken the D2L program to these other youth-serving organizations.
