These are two powerful documentaries about two very talented women. "Ilona Upstairs" documents Ilona Royce-Smithkin, a PBS pioneer who taped many of the first instructional painting programs at South Carolina ETV in the 1970s. She lives in a NYC apartment above filmmaker Melissa Hammel, who aspires to unearth some of Ilona's many skeletons in order to learn how one transitions from a place of great sorrow to a place of great joy. "Fried Chicken and Sweet Potato Pie" tells the story of Edna Lewis, an African American chef and cookbook author who mentored a young chef named Scott Peacock early in his career. Their connection through food grew over the years into a strong working relationship and friendship. At age 89, Ms. Lewis developed early signs of dementia. Scott made a loving decision to become his best friend's caregiver.

Landlocked: How South Carolina Made Fishing History

The film chronicles the amazing story of how the state of South Carolina changed fishing history forever. During the Great Depression the state undertook a controversial project. Through the use of federal funds, 40 miles of dams and dikes were constructed to flood 160,000 acres from the historic, moss-hung Lowcountry of Charleston all the way inland to Columbia to create Santee Cooper. This was done to create hydroelectric power for the surrounding rural areas. But when the locks were closed, the originally ocean dwelling fish striped bass became landlocked and unable to get back to saltwater. After several years, fishermen and biologists realized the fish were thriving and reproducing, incredibly for the first time ever in freshwater. The striped bass is now stocked in lakes in nearly 40 states and is one of America's greatest game fish.

A Christmas Carol: Behind the Magic chronicles the history of one of the Southeast's most well-known stage adaptations of the Charles Dickens classic. The documentary begins with the musical comedy's humble beginnings in 1974, and explores how and why the show has grown into a Raleigh-based, community theatre production, annually playing to 30,000 people after a mere 10-show run every December. You'll hear from current and former cast members whose lives have been profoundly impacted by the show, personally and professionally. The show's director and star, Ira David Wood III, has played Ebenezer Scrooge in the show every year since this adaptation debuted, except in 2010, when heart surgery sidelined him from performing one month before the show opened. The documentary goes into particular detail about the events of that year, and gives an indication as to what may happen to the show when Ira David Wood III no longer plays Scrooge.

"Welcome to beautiful Duncan Park!" Ed Dickerson always announced during his stint at Duncan Park in the late 1960s. The oldest baseball stadium in South Carolina, and one of the oldest in America, Duncan Park offered a bigger place for amateur baseball teams to play and avid baseball fans to watch. But much more than that, the historic pitch brought communities together and remains the source of nostalgia for baseball fans today. The thirty-minute long program documents the rise and fall and restoration of Duncan Park, from its promising beginning in the summer of 1926 to its present state.
