Almost eight years ago, the University of South Carolina's School of Library and Information Science launched the South Carolina Center for Children's Books and Literacy, a statewide initiative to reduce illiteracy in South Carolina by partnering with local public and school libraries. Now they have partnered with USC Press, the university's publishing arm, to create Young Palmetto Books, an educational children's and young adult book series.
Mike Switzer interviews Center director Kim Jeffcoat, who is part of an editorial board that is looking for South Carolina authors and illustrators interested in participating in this project.
