Thursday - December 08, 2011 at 07:52 am
Immigration laws have been changing around the country, including South Carolina, and as a result, many businesses are finding themselves facing new hiring regulations. Jan. 1st is the start date for the amended "Illegal Aliens and Private Employment" law that will require every employer in this state to verify their new hires through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's E-Verify system. Companies that fail to comply can lose the right to operate their business.
Mike Switzer interviews Jim Knight, the administrator for the S.C. Office of Immigrant Worker Compliance at the S.C. Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. www.llr.sc.gov/immigration/index.asp?file=E-verify.htm
