Many retirees follow the rule that financial advisors have prescribed for decades: Invest in a diversified mix of stocks and bonds, then withdraw about 4 or 5% of the portfolio value each year. But with record low interest rates and a stock market that has gone sideways for more than a decade, does this strategy still work?
