A Sister’s Call

Wednesday - June 19, 2013 at 07:52 am

In 1977, our next guest's brother went missing. Twenty years later, he showed back up in his hometown of Greenville, SC, suffering from paranoid schizophrenia.  Over the next fourteen years, his sister, Rebecca Schaper attempted, and she and her family would even say, became obsessed, with trying to help Call Richmond recover and return to society as a normal productive person.  These extraordinary circumstances were filmed and turned into the documentary "A Sister’s Call" which has won numerous awards around the country.  We came across Rebecca at the Beaufort International Film Festival earlier this year.

Mike Switzer interviews Rebecca Schaper in the studio in Columbia.

Donald Russell served as governor from 1963 to 1965 when he resigned to fill the vacancy of the Senate seat of Olin Johnston due to his death. Although he was governor after Hollings, Russell was not elected to the Senate, he appointed himself.
