Columbia SC...In an interview conducted Friday on ETV's "The Big Picture on the Radio," Congressman Tom Tancredo (R-Colo), was asked what he thought about the immigration plan that has just been put forth by the Senate.

To many, the issue of immigration is seen as the cornerstone of Tancredo's campaign.

Question (by Andrew Gobeil, host of ETV's "The Big Picture on the Radio":
"What do you think of the immigration proposal being bandied about right now in the Congress?"

Answer: "It's lousy. A piece of junk. It is the same old pig, they just slapped a lot more lipstick on it. It is an amnesty bill for 12 to 20 million people who are living here illegally...It's pretty much of a disaster...Robert Rector, who's of the Heritage Foundation, just did an analysis of it, and this will cost us about $2.5 trillion...over the lifetime of the people who are getting amnesty because of what it will provide for them in Social Security benefits, and other social service benefits...

"I would do something that I know is very radical in its approach, probably very controversial, but it's really, I think, the answer, and it's just called enforce the law...against employers who are presently hiring people who are here illegally...just enforce the law and you will see attrition, and you will see it by the millions..."

Still later, Tancredo weighed-in on a statement made by, Michael Chertoff, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security on Thursday:

"Secretary Chertoff was yesterday whining about the fact, and really misrepresenting what his office is doing. He said, 'I've got people now chasing...maids and landscapers...when I should be having them looking for terrorists. Well, he's got nobody chasing around hotel maids or landscapers, and he doesn't have to. All he has to do is go after the employer, and believe me, you will see folks who are here illegally go home. And they will go home by the millions, and they can then get in line and come in the right way."
