ETV Radio’s Song Travels with Michael Feinstein has received an Art Works grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. The program is one of 886 non-profit organizations to receive an Art Works grant, recognizing projects that meet the highest standards of excellence: public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and enhancement of the livability of communities through the arts.

Song Travels is a weekly public radio series produced by ETV Radio.  It is heard nationally on NPR and hosted by five-time Grammy-nominee Michael Feinstein. From jazz, blues, and classical to rock, pop, and country, Song Travels builds a bridge across genres, songs and songwriters, and includes a wide-variety of acclaimed artists such as Renee Fleming, Jake Shimabukuro, Chris Young, and Wynton Marsalis. The weekly, one-hour series outlines the rich vitality and evolution of American music through on air performances and discussions. In each episode, host Feinstein and his guest trace the journey of these selected songs and how each artist interprets a song individually. It is now in its fifth season.

"The ETV Endowment and ETV Radio are thrilled to have this recognition for Song Travels with Michael Feinstein. We're very fortunate to have found such a brilliant and talented host in Michael Feinstein.  To have South Carolina known for this program nationally and by these artists is a positive and compelling affirmation for our state," said Shari Hutchinson, Director of ETV Radio and Programming.  “This grant is part of that recognition.”

To receive a grant, each project must undergo an independent review process by national panels, followed by the Nation Council on the Arts and the NEA Acting Chairman, making selection for a grant a true honor and mark of distinction.

NEA Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa said, "The NEA is pleased to announce that Song Travels is recommended for an NEA Art Works grant. These NEA-supported projects will not only have a positive impact on local economies, but will also provide opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the arts, help our communities to become more vibrant, and support our nation's artists as they contribute to our cultural landscape."

Art Works grants support the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and enhancement of the livability of communities through the arts.  The NEA received 1,515 eligible applications under the Art Works category, requesting more than $76 million in funding. Of those applications, 886 are recommended for grants for a total of $25.8 million.
