August 30, 2010
“The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That!," a new PBS KIDS program that supports science learning for preschoolers, will premiere on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6. It will be seen weekdays at 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and Sundays at 7:30 a.m. To help kick-off of the new series in South Carolina, The Cat himself will attend the ETV 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sept. 25, 2010.
“The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That!” was created in response to recent findings that children graduating from kindergarten are less prepared to learn about science than other subjects. The series teaches core science concepts and vocabulary and prepares preschoolers for kindergarten and first grade science curriculum.
Voiced by award-winning actor Martin Short, Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat guides friends Sally and Nick – with a little help from the Fish, Thing 1 and Thing 2 – on fun-filled adventures where they make natural science discoveries, from how bees make honey to why owls sleep during the day. “The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That!” will be a great addition to the ETV Kids’ program line-up, joining such classic and cross-generational favorites as “Curious George,” “Arthur” and “Sesame Street" that grandparents, parents and children will all enjoy.
In celebration of this new program, The Cat in the Hat will join the ETV cast and crew at their Columbia studios on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 for the statewide network's 50th Anniversary Celebration. Other kids’ characters present will include WordGirl, Super Why, Clifford, Peep, and of course, the ETV Kids' mascot Smart Cat. All six characters will be meeting and greeting their young fans, posing for pictures and handing out ‘swag’ from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. This event is free and open to the public and will be held at 1041 George Rogers Blvd, Columbia, SC 29201.
ETV is South Carolina’s statewide network with 11 television stations, eight radio stations and a closed-circuit educational telecommunications system in more than 2000 schools, colleges, businesses, and government agencies.
