ETV to Broadcast Super Lineup of Alternative Programming on Super Bowl Sunday

This Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 1, ETV offers a lineup of game day alternatives that would make even the most rabid pigskin addicts want to share the remote control. Well…ok, that might be a slight exaggeration. But for the anti-Super Bowl, football-weary set, this is no time for playing hard ball. Football widows unite! Grab your own chips & dip, your own remote control and watch the superstars on ETV.

The afternoon of special programming kicks off at 4 p.m. with Andre Rieu: Live from Radio City Music Hall: Live in New York.

Taped in July 2006, this electrifying concert features 21 selections, ranging from songs popularized in films and musicals to more traditional and classical pieces, performed by Rieu and his special guests: The Harlem Gospel Choir, Johann Strauss Orchestra and Rieu’s vocal choir.

Music featured in this broadcast include:

• “Godfather Waltz” from the Academy Award-winning film The Godfather
• “Don’t Cry for Me, Argentina” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita
• “Amen” Traditional, featuring the Harlem Gospel Choir
• “The Music of the Night” from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera

Rieu’s Radio City Music Hall concert also marks the return of five-year-old violinist Akim Camara, who originally delighted fans at age three when he played his very little violin in a previous special.

Then, at 6 p.m., the music keeps coming with Hitman: David Foster & Friends. Recorded live at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay, the two-hour-long show features Foster tickling the ivories at center stage, performing a veritable jukebox of songs written and/or produced by him.

This Great Performances concert brings Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban and Michael Bublé together, leading a parade of entertainers that include the soulful Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds along with brother Kevon, R & B balladeer Brian McKnight, former Chicago front man Peter Cetera, and singer/songwriter Boz Scaggs.

Neatly arcing Foster’s remarkable 35-year career, other highlights range from Kenny G’s rendition of St. Elmo’s Fire Love Theme to dance-all-night disco with Cheryl Lynn’s “Got to Be Real.”

Hitman: David Foster & Friends also features American Idol Katharine McPhee, who solos on “Somewhere” as well as American Idol finalist Michael Johns with his rendition of “Man In Motion.” Sixteen-year-old Filipino powerhouse Charice, best known in America for her appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show, performs a stunning show-stopper medley of “I Have Nothing” and “I Will Always Love You.”
