In honor of every ghost’s favorite holiday, Halloween, South Carolina ETV is airing back-to-back episodes of Carolina Stories: Ghosts and Legends on October 25 at 8:00 p.m., followed at 9:00 p.m. by the premiere of Southern Lens: Strange and Scary Shorts.
Hosted by Aunt Pearlie Sue (Anita Singleton-Prather of the Hallelujah Singers), Ghosts and Legends II and Ghosts and Legends III include the Gray Man, arguably South Carolina’s most famous ghost, who advises Pawleys Island citizens to evacuate when there’s an impending hurricane; the story of Jack, the rum-loving pirate who was marooned on an island; the ghost who took up occupancy in a Pickens County general store and never left, and more.
Southern Lens: Strange and Scary Shorts contains four very different stories from around the Palmetto State. The program was produced by local independent filmmakers and includes:
Toogoodoo (directed and produced by Lee Waldrep, Charleston, SC) After a despondent man has lost his way, he's coerced by old friends to partake in a weekend fishing trip. There he finds himself on an unexpected journey.
Scattered City (directed and produced by Monica D’Onofrio, Greenville, SC) A private detective tries to track down a missing person from Hurricane Katrina in Charleston, SC. Strangely, some people, including the missing person, don't want him to succeed.
Dirty Silverware (directed and produced by Steve Daniels, Columbia, SC) A man travels deep into the forest to stop an ancient creature from creating cursed silverware that brings unhappiness to the world.
The Debutante Hunters (directed and produced by Maria White, Los Angeles, CA) In the Lowcountry of South Carolina, a group of true Southern belles reveal their more rugged side, providing a glimpse into what drives them to hunt in the wild.
South Carolina ETV is the state's public educational broadcasting network with 11 television and eight radio transmitters, and a multi-media educational system in more than 2,500 schools, colleges, businesses and government agencies. Using television, radio and the web, SCETV's mission is to enrich lives by educating children, informing and connecting citizens, celebrating our culture and environment and instilling the joy of learning.
